ask around. see who your friends and acquaintances go to and like. insurance only helps pay, but sometimes they tell you who to go to...they'll only pay if you go to certain doctors. without insurance, you pay, but you can go to anyone you want. it's good to have a doctor familiar with you in case something happens. if you go to a doctor and don't like him/her, go to another one til you find one you like. some people love a doctor while others hate the same one.

I would suggest that you go to your local yellow pages phone book and find the physicians under the "general practitioner" or "family practice" etc. Call and just ask if they are taking new patients. Some do, others are "full" and not taking new patients.

Explain to the receptionist as you have said it here. They will be glad to help you. Ask them about insurance or private pay. Just keep it simple. Good Luck.

you don't need insurance, but it helps, you'll pay more without insurance call DOs or MDs near where you work or live so you can easily get into an appointment
