I have been to Rome, Venice and Naples. They are all very different. Rome is good for sightseeing and there is a beach at Ostia di Lido about half an hour from central rome...you can go to Frascati in the hills of Rome for its wine and pork restaurants or..Venice....its small but a very interesting place. lots of walking.boats to take you to each town or to Murano where they make beautiful glass and a terrific holiday atmosphere. Naples...you could go to Pompei from there and see Mt. Etna. It really depends on what you are looking for. Remember that shops shut in the afternoon for their siesta and open again at 4pm in Rome. Be careful also if you sit for a meal there are table charges.

True lovers of Italy do not just go to big name towns. There are wonderful places all over.
At one time film stars settled in Capri. Then English people who could afford it all rushed to buy cheap properties in Tuscany and it got nicknamed "Chiantishire". Now the fad is for Umbria, Lazzio and Marche. Recently the media have discovered the "boot" of Italy, so we can expect this to become the next place to be invaded.
Tourists who want to sight see go for all the names you have posted. Those who want beaches go to the Adriatic or the Amalfi coast.
There is one name that stands out above all others: Venice, "La Stupenda"," La Serenissima", "La Bellissima". No word is adequate to define it.
I love every inch of Italy and my heart was captured at the age of seventeen by a handsome civil engineer by the name of Bruno. My parents opposed the match and my heart still lies broken in Perugia, all these years later.
Once Italy has got into your blood, she is there for ever..."La Meravigliosa". One cannot turn the clocks back, but how I wish I were there now.
Ho lasciato il mio cuore in Italia. Mi piace tutta.

I loved Florence. Wide open spaces, beautiful architecture, galleries, red wine in the afternoon, wonderful food, smartly dressed Italians who were really friendly-especially considering my abysmal Italian attempts, walk in shower rooms, marble floors, not being the only person having a picnic in the parks and last but not least the ice-cream.
Have been to Venice and surrounding isles too but I wasn't as enamoured.

Hi! I am Italian and i work in a hotel where 30% of guests come from UK... it's on Lake Como, near the Swiss border and Milan: it is not as famous as Lake Garda, but it has beautiful spots!
If you are quite young you may find it a little "boring", but it can be nice for 2 or 3 days... and then you can go easily shopping in Milan or in Switzerland and head towards Liguria in 3 or 4 hours driving...
Ciao!
