The only one I've used is norton ghost, which isn't free.

Check the links on the wiki site....they're suppose to be some free ones, but i think their for unix, not sure.

the ideal one i've got found is Partition Magic. It lets you resize the partition. in case you reproduction a smallercontinual to a greatercontinual it strikes it over the comparable length then you definately can resize the partition to precisely what you elect. an rather reachable application for partition andcontinual administration If for some reason you're going from an superior annoyingcontinual to a smaller one you will desire to verify there is sufficient space on the smallercontinual then shrink the partition and flow it over and probable resize to greater healthful.

norton ghost 2002 will do the trick. NFTS was use for primarily XP and i think 2000. anything else was fat32. the disk read error shouldn't of been because of the NFTS format. you did use the cloning tool in the dos prompt right?

Copying disk is easy, use XXCOPY
XXCOPY is very Good, even industrial strength Good, you just have to use the switches properly.
Check ZD Net for Utilities that will convert and resize.
