This is a serious question, I'm not having a go at anyone. Why do you use a phone while driving, out of all the phone calls you make/ recieve, can't they just wait until you have pulled over? The main reason I ask is I've just seen a driver go through a busy junction with the phone in thier left hand, changing gears with thier right hand. That means no hands on the wheel! Why are we so compelled to answer a phone while driving, especially as hands free kits are easy to get and usually come with the phone when you buy it these days. This is a serious question, I'm genuinly interested in why people do this.

This was a right hand drive car btw, so the manouvre was very complex and dangerous.

I pick my son up from work and noticed one of his collegues is on a phone before she leaves the car park. It's a very awkward place with two roundabouts! When he told her I'd said something and asked why she did it her excuse was she was letting her hubby know she was on the way home! Beat that for senseless! 2 minutes before she drives off would do that!
I have to carry my phone for work and always have it on handsfree but it is switched off when I'm not working! I hate the flipping things!

I work in a garage and I drive a lot of cars for test drives. I had a 2004 Audi A6 Quattro out the other day and I had some lady on a cell phone run a red, I swerved out of the way and the ony thing that saved me and that car from taking out the side of a Suburban was the fact that it had the all wheel drive setup. It was too close for comfort. Most people don't know, that if a technician is on a test drive and is in an accident, the only insurance companies used are that of the vehicles involved. Try explaining to someone that their $60 000 car was wrote off becase some lady was to buy to hang up. I've never had to do that or hope I never have to. I'm sure if it was thier vehicle they would be pissed off at it, what makes any other vehicle any different. Stiff fines, and possibly suspentions is whats in order. 1 month first offence, 3 months second offence, 1 year third, gone fouth, and put a $5000 fine on each time. I'm sure cell phone use would drop by a long shot.

Whenever I get into my car I either switch off my phone or I turn it to mute.
I am so sick of seeing people doing as you describe. Almost as bad are those who get out of the car at the petrol station and walk across the forecourt whilst on the phone. People in the queue at the shop or the post office talking to someone you can't see. I heard a shop worker once say to a bloke " sorry to interrupt your phone call". But the drivers are the worst, as bad IMO as drink/drivers. And the punishment for both should fit the crime - - - no ifs buts or maybes, and certainly no exceptions - - loss of licence on a permanent basis.

Just the other day an oil tanker passed the end of our road on the phone, Ive seen bus drivers onthe phone and umpteen drivers as well. Our farm road meets at a main road and is quite dangerous as its on the cress of a hill on a slight bend. But where are the cops when they pass. Nowhere to be seen.

I dont know.
But the last 10 taxi cabs I've gotten in the driver has used their mobile every time!! That makes me mad - its impairing their concentration on driving and putting MY life at risk - they can put their own lives at risk all they want, i dont care... but I hate it when there are passengers involved. Especially when a child is a passenger in the car GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Because they are IDIOTS. I used to be one of these idiots until I saw a programme and the devastating effects it had on the family of a young woman killed because the other driver was messing around with his new phone!!
The law needs to get tougher.

Oh because they think they are the worlds best drivers and they are invincible. If i could guarantee its only them selves they would be killing on the roads then they would be fine...but its the innocent others that get caught up in their selfish lack of concentration that really get me!
