I understand the theories behind why we yawn -- I did look up similar questions in Yahoo!Answers. :-)

But I always yawn at two stange instances: When I am very nervous (an unfortunate example is job interviews), or when I exercise - no matter what time of day.

I don't get it. I have a great diet, in fact I regularly see a nutritionist, and I work out six days a week. I am not overweight, but certainly not skinny. I'm in my 30s. I get a good amount of sleep each night. I've just got too much going on to ever say I'm bored.

Any theories on why I would yawn when I'm nervous and when I exercise?

Sounds like you were reading and analizing all the reasons listed for the yawn...from being bored,to being overweight..
Well while no one really knows why people yawn.. it's kind of a medical mystery there are theories that there are just different reasons for different people..Yawning makes you feel good..and when you yawn you are taking a deep breath and then kind of holding it,which would suggest that there might be a lack of oxygen in your body that your body is trying to replenish by yawning, which then in return makes you feel good.(When you work out, your body needs more Oxygen for the muscles, and by yawning you are getting more air that way) It is kind of like a stretch in the morning..why do people do that...sometimes even with the yawn..I would think,we do it because it makes us feel good and comfortable...In an interview it would be just to release that tention...one way of your body trying to relax...well that is my theory anyways..
Have you ever noticed that yawning is contagious?
Even over the phone? You could be doing a quit yawn, that the other person does not hear, and then all of the sudden you hear the other person yawning...Pretty neat try it out sometime..;)
Pretty neat..

You're either not getting enough oxygen to your blood at those times, or you've developed a nervous habit. Take deep breaths just before an interview, and practice breathing deeply when you're exercising. It's easy to forget to breath in both these circumstances!

1. when u're nervous bcoz u mayb be holding your breath/breathing too fast/slowly(becoz of nervousness), so your body tries to get remove the excess Carbon dioxide by yawning...try to relax urself..
2. When u're excercising becoz u're not breathing out well...try monitoring ur breathing in and out..take deep breaths and exhale the co2.

It could just be a little thing your body does, I get hiccups come on for no reason at least twice a day, yet my doctor says there is nothing wrong with me. Maybe it's to do with how you breathe when you exercise.

well, could just be a nervous habit.

but usually its a sign of being tired....

yawning also equalizes the pressure in your ears...it could just be trying to stabilize the pressure during exercise or something

It helps you take in more oxygen, for one, Maybe that's the reason behind it during exercise.

And when you nervous - I don't know, I suppose everyone has some sort of nervous twitch about them.
