Click on your Start button in the lower left corner, then All Programs, find Firefox within the programs listed, highlight with mouse, but don't click on it, just right-click and a menu will come up. Choose "Send to..", and another window will show up, just click on Desktop [make shortcut]. That should do it.

If you don't have it listed in your All Programs file, do a search for 'firefox.exe'. It's probably in your "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" directory, just right-click the firefox.exe file, and Send to Desktop.

actually - being a wee bit more precise: to get the icon on ya desktop right away - right click the icon (firefox.exe) and go to Send To > Desktop (Create Shortcut)
