can people please turn their thermostats down by 1 degree or more? it might sound crazy, but it isnt. 1 degree of central heating pollutes the atmosphere by 1/3 of a ton each year! you're probably not going to notice 1 degree of central heating anyway. You might think that this will only work if the whole world does it, but if nobody does it because of that reason, we're worse of than if 1 person does it, and who'll notice 1 degree? Dont say you wont do it because you'll be dead by then, because if no-one does this, global warming could happen in 30 years time, and even if you do die in 30 years time, you wouldnt want your children to die. The effects of global warming is melting of the polar ice-caps, which will melt, and sea level will rise by 66m. whoever's house is smaller than 66m will drown. the UK will have arctic winters. thats around -90° F. Our eyes freeze at -80°. Dont think that central heating wont make a difference, and we should be worrying about airplanes instead,

because we do need to worry about airplanes, but i'm only 13 and cant do anything about that, but if you're a member of the government, or know someone who is the member of government (it is a possibility...), you can do something.

also, another good thing to do is to seal up all cracks in the walls and stuff, or insulate your house, so the central heating doesnt need to be so high, and the heat stays in the house and doesnt escape.

13 and you're quite an expert. Come back in 40 years and tell us how you feel then when you have some real life experience under your belt. I'm betting you'll look back and say, "Wow, I was really suckered into that whole global warming thing." Worry about something more fitting like making it through school. I love it when teenagers think they know better than adults the solutions to world issues.

All well and good that single degree, but without central heating would you like everyone to go back to campfires and ox carts? I think you have a bit to much chicken little going on. The sky is not falling, and we simply don't have the ability to control the earths climate.

Well I think its great that your 13 and you care a lot out our environment well done keep it up!, if i had a thermostat (I'm guessing it an American thing) I would turn it down one degree, but I don't...oh next time I turn my air con on I'll put it on medium instead of high. Hows that?

I keep my thermostat at 68 throughout the winter. Plan driving trips so as to conserve fuel. (Never backtrack ) I've insulated my home and rely on solar as much as possible. More people need to be aware of such issues as the amount of trash and garbage they throw away as well as the amount of fuel that they consume. Look at the garbage stats and their effect on ocean waters!!!!!!!!!!

I think your suggestion is excellent and I've just done it. Every little bit helps. And it has to start somewhere, so I started it in my home.
