type in reverse sneeze as a search. Dogs can have allergies just like people. your dad can be bringing something in from work that your dog is allergic to. When she coughs, does her neck stretch out? If it is a reverse sneeze then it is pretty harmless. Save yourself some money for a day or so and research reverse sneezing. Its can be kinda like an asma attack we get excited and can have an attack. My dog does it and I went to the drug store and bought infant nose decongestant. It stops his attack immediately. My cousin works for a vet and gave me this hint. People are quick to call it kennel cough (even vets) without doing the proper testing. then you get the big vet bill and expensive antibiotics when it could be something as simple as a sneeze.

Take her to a vet as soon as possible,my dog had a cough but although the vet said it was kennel cough,I did not agree,as I have heard several dogs with this complaint.I asked for more tests and I received a phone call to say there was nothing they could do as he had a really aggrestive form of cancer which had started in the throat and spread to his lungs,he only had three days to live,PLEASE be adament and demand for more tests if you are not satisfied with the reason the vet gives you, there is always a reason why a healthy dog starts coughing and with the right tests the vet should be able to determine WHY this is happening.I have never heard of a dog getting fur balls only cats.By the way my dog was only 8 years old.
Good Luck,

Theres two possibilities, she might have swallowed something that she's trying to cough up. Or it could be bordetella. It's the most common cause of tracheobronchitis (kennel cough) in dogs. Its usually aquired in kennels or dog parks, but it could have be brought home on a family member who touched an infected dog. If so, its just a simple intra-nasal vaccine and a couple days rest for your pooch.
Either way, you should probably have her checked out by the vet, as swallowed items like leashes, fabric, or chew toys can be serious problems once they reach the intestines. Also, make sure you call your vet ahead of time in case it is Kennel cough as they will probably want to make special arrangements to reduce the risk of infecting other patients.

It could be a symptom of a number of things. The best person to ask would be your vet.
