It actually takes 4 spiders, one under each paw, to carry away a dog. They don't walk under the paws but they leap forward, for instance the left paws will leap forward first then the right paws will leap forward, this gives the impression the dog is walking and avoids arousing suspicion.

Where on earth did you hear that? No way could a spider do that! The biggest I've come across wouldn't be able to lift a bird never mind a dog! I think you must be confusing the UK spider with some horrid giant thing from another country or a film!!

Yeah, sometimes there is a genetic fault and it causes them to have large amounts of silk, which they use for spinning their webs. Many variations of spider have appeared in recent years due to increase in temperature via global warming. Many of these 'Giant' house spiders have been contaminated by nuclear or toxic waste. These spiders are rarely seen but on occasion the remains of there kill can be found lying on roads, usually these are mistaken for roadkill.

i was talking to a small gypsy boy the other day and he quite knowledgeably informed me of a few common miss-conceptions within this particular area. firstly it is only the fur-backed garden spider that can carry dogs, not the spiders we often encounter in our homes. also the size of the dog depends entirely upon the size of the spider, for example a small fur-backed garden spider can carry literally massive dogs where as larger version of the fur-backed garden spider can only carry little sh*tty dogs like puppies and that.

I have heard of these spiders from Vietnam that are huge and lay on their backs like they are dead and as soon as something touches its stomach they are like a Venus fly-trap and gobble up the prey, I have actually seen these on animal-planet TV. I hate the spiders of all kinds it is spiders and mice that really creep me out.

What a load of bloody nonsense. If this were true dont you think that we would see a lot more dogs, mice, and even small humans in spider webs?????

This is a joke, right? I don't live in the UK so if it's a joke that's probably why I don't get it, i dunno.
Maybe you've been watching Lord of the Rings too much? :) Or perhaps you're afraid of the GIANT MOLE RAT? lol

At any rate, the HONEST answer to your question: h*ll no.
