In his autobiography 'WINGS OF FIRE' Dr.kalam narrates an incident after losing is first interview with the Airforce, that he met a swamiji and swamiji consoled him and said that "your destiny is predetermined" and DR.Kalam also agrees with it.
A staunch disbeliever of astrology how does he believe in destiny being predetermined.if so the millions of our country men who clean human excreta -are they destined to do that? millions of our country women who work in the fields and whose skin are parched by the sun - are they destined to do that?millions of our children who die of malnurition-are their fate so determined?
is the saying "CHOICE NOT CHANCE DETERMINES DESTINY " True or false

That is a tough question to answer. I have my own belief but this question should find its way to Dr. APJK's table. Only he can answer that, with regards to the India's problems.

I read the book long ago and do not remember the particular thing you mention.. May be when one's best efforts fail, one is prone to put the blame on random causes which may be called Destiny.. The way the Swamiji meant it and the way the learned scientist took it may not be the same.. I will tell you an instance.

Once a group of sceptics are said to have approached the well known mystic of our times Sri Sathya Sai Baba and asked if the Rahukalam and Yamakandam (inauspicious times of the day) were indeed true.. And the Baba is said to have replied, "My dear friends, for those who believe all these as true, the R and Y are also true and not for those who believe all this as false".. When the group left with a sense of victory that the Swamy did not have the guts to defend the "superstition", the people around Baba had asked how come he replied so, when the auspicious times were observed even in the Mandir there? To this the wise one had replied that he had not told any lie and it was not his fault if the sceptics in their ego took it the way they liked it... He said that the R and Y did not exist for the enlightened ones (Gnanis) who did not consider the created world as Real but an Illusion... but it did exist for the wordly persons deluded to think that the world was Real.. The explanation perfect as per the vedic dictum pleasantly surprised the believers...

The way the wise deal with the abstract subjects are always strange and Dr Kalam would have even overtly accepted the view of the Swamiji out of courtesy... since it would be unlike him to thrust his own disbeliefs on such things on a Hindu swami who saw it that way...

We should invariably try to see the best in others and imbibe them rather than worry over what appears inappropriate in our view about such persons.. If we always look for the best from our perspective in others whom we adore, dear friend, we may be missing a lot of nice and wonderful things - and persons - in life..

Choice not chance determines destiny is true if you are given a choice. Other wise its chance you are where you are. Not many people get a choice that could lead them towards a great destiny.
