f u vaguely know someone for a few months then start dating them and after 6 weeks you move in with them and 3 weeks later you accept their proposal do you think this relationship will work? What are the chances they will get married eventually? They dont argue and appear happy at the moment and think they really know each other very well so nothing can go wrong I know you can feel love that fast but is it real? They have lived together for 6 weeks now so have dated for 12 weeks in total They are both aged 30 and really want a family etc To complicate matters they need to decide fast as he needs a certificate of approval of marriage as he is not an EU citizen and his visa expires at the end of March They then need to marry within a year

As somebody with personal experience of a very quick marriage I can tell you that you can not know somebody well enough before at least a year. You need to see them through the early passion and get to know their real character - in bad times as well as good. In the old days these quick marriages lasted because divorce was not something people did - so you had to stick with your choice. Today I'd rate that marriage's chances at abut 20%. Add to that the complication of being forced to marry for immigration reasons - and it's a disaster.

I married someone who proposed to me after 4 weeks; the marriage ended miserably. On the other hand, I know many happy couples who married hastily against everyone's advice, and they see the impulsiveness as very romantic. Success in marriage is largely a matter of chance, and i honestly think the statistical likelihood of divorce is the same for speedy marriages as for those with traditional, long engagements.

Sounds suspicious and I can understand your concern for your friend. It does sound too speedy but there is nothing you can do about it. We all have to make our own mistakes. Who knows it may work out.

Everything sounded great in that story, until you got to the point where his visa expires in March. Sounds fishy to me.
