Abraham offered his son Isaac for sacrifice at God's instruction, but God stopped him before he killed him telling him that it was a test of his faith. He then sacrificed a goat that was nearby.

Dear Friend,
This was Abrham,
Genesis 22:9 When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven, "Abraham! Abraham!"
"Here I am," he replied.
12 "Do not lay a hand on the boy," he said. "Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son."
13 Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram [a] caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, "On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided."
God Bless

Abraham was to sacrifice his son on a mountain-top, and depending on your version, either he did, or was stopped, or his son was translated to heaven.
The God of the Jews, Christians and Muslims did this thing, demanding that Abraham prove his faith by killing his beloved son.
It says a lot about that particular deity, doesn't it?

Abraham was to sacrifice his son to God because God told him to, and then just before he did, God told Abraham he was only testing him. This is but one of the lessons from the bible that causes me not to want to bend my knee to the God of Abraham.

Abraham said, "God will provide Himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son." (Genesis 22:8)
and He did:
"The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29)
