the best way to help the environment is to recycle and separate ur needs from your wants. encourage people around u to care for d environment and reduce wastage. and u can't ask people to stop buying 'junk'. what is useless 2 u may not b 2 others. & every1 has brains enough not buy crapy "stuff".

the current "western" global culture is based on the economics & aspirations of infinite industrial growth.

To consider that we could all live healthier, happier lives if we engage with our world & community is a big threat to people's self perception and to a lot of vested interests that have got very powerful under the current system. eg most media depend for their income on selling us dreams of more stuff.

This issue was highlighted by the ancient greeks, especially Epicurius. The early Roman christians heavily suppressed his ideas as a particular threat to their power structure, which has led us to the current consumer culture.

To change to a life sustaining culture will require a great turning in our civilisation
