I find myself staying up until 3 or 4am, even when I'm dead tired all night. I'm sure if I would lay down I would be able to sleep.

Is that insomnia, or some other mental health problem? lol

Insomnia is not being able to sleep even when you have tried all means to get to sleep.

But you are able to sleep when you make yourself lie down. So, you do not have insomnia. Rather, you are in denial to sleep, just like me. I would always watch the television till late into the night (about 1 or 2am), even though I'm dead beat.

As for other mental health problem, I don't think you have that. Just lay back when you think you should be sleeping & you'll be able to. Don't worry too much. Seems to me, its very common. ;)

Insomnia isn't a 'mental health' problem, but a reaction to something. You may only be drinking too much coffee to late in the day. That kept a friend of mine away from sleep for so long he nearly went mad. Look at how much caffeine you ingest in a day, especially after, say 4 pm. If it's more than one cup, stop it, or drop down to decaf.
If it's not that, then you need to slow down. Drinking Chamomile as a tea helps surprisingly.

It's only insomnia if you're trying to sleep and can't fall asleep or you have troube staying asleep. If you're just staying up all night because you want to and would otherwise be able to sleep if you layed down then that's just poor sleep hygeine. Now go to bed....

I would never suggest to someone I don't know anything about, that they have a mental health issue. However, I do have a mental health issue I won't name here; that causes me to fight sleep even when I would be able to sleep if I would lie down. My suggestion to you would be to talk to your physician about your sleep patterns to learn all possibilities in relation to your overall health.

Insomnia- not be able to sleep
If it happens more often, then yes, you have insomnia. If not, a mental problem.
