I have the instructions of how to us the universal remote, as the original one is broken.

The tv is not tuned in. When it was on before, it had a scart lead with cut directly to the cable channels.

Will the universal remote work if the TV is not tuned in?

Just to clarify, I dont want the universal remote to tune in the tv.

I was wondering if it would work if the telly is not tuned in manually.

When I switch the telly on, its blank.. I have to press MODE or AVTV to cut to cable/dvd/video

unfortunaly no unverisal remote control will tune in a tv, so you will be unable to use it.

If your tv has a " menu " buttom on it you can tune in manual.

Once that is done the unverisal remote will work ( as long as you have put in the right code )

I also bought a universal remote earlier. The problem you are facing might be due to some problem in the settings of the remote. So, try adjusting the remote once again according to your dvd/vcr and tv. Also, changing the batteries might work. Sometimes, there is problem with the remote too!
