I know that you do not believe Jesus was God, but what do you think of his teachings and moral philosophy.

I tried reading the teachings- once.
I got as far as the woman who wanted him to heal her daughter, but wasn't Jewish.

So Jesus made her beg, "like a dog begging for scraps".

He's the standard you set? Riiiiight.

It depends. On one part of his teachings he calls people hypocrites for not stoning their kids. In another part he tells slaves how to behave without any moral troubling about the institution. He also was very emphatic and spent a lot of time talking about how people would go to hell if they did not follow him. However, there are many teachings that are actually noble and loving. I would even go as far as to say that for his time he was VERY morally advanced, so my judgement of him is light. I think his teachings are for the most part good as well as his persona, but as any other HUMAN (not "full human full god") he had his faults.

Many teachings and morals used in the bible are universal human. Do not kill, do steal be good be nice to your fellow human being, yes that' all honky dory. But there are to many killing/stoning stories in the bible that makes me sick. Morals can be derived from within and a god is not needed. Atheist live a moral, noble and honorable life.

Its interesting. I actually have my own set of ethics which I came by with logical deliberation but in many ways mirrors many of the teachings of christ. As an agnostic Ive always held the teachings of christ in high regard the issue I have is more than not with those that claim to follow his teachings as normally they do not.

I would have felt better about the Jesus character if the guy had actually given straight answers to people instead of throwing stories at them.

Mainly silly and two dimensional. Most of his teachings only work in a very simplified black and white world.
"Do unto your neighbour as you would have him do unto you" (or something like that) for example. I can think of dozens of situations where this would be absurd.

I do not believe in killing my children by stoning them when they misbehave.
I do not indulge slavery.
I do not believe in pushing moral value by fear of punishment.

He was a good person and when I say person - he might have all the qualities (good or bad). But a good person is one who reveals his goods values and supresses the bad qualities.
