It could have something to do with what you are feeding him - is he constipated? Have you fed your dog cooked bones? Another reason may be blocked anal glands - these glands sit just inside the anus and when the dog poo's, the glands release a gooey coating over the poo - which is sort of an ID to dogs - this is also why dogs sniff each others butts! Sometimes these glands can get blocked and need to be manually emptied. Ask your vet to do this as it isn't the most pleasant job in the world. Dogs with block anal glands can be quite uncomfortable - itchy butt, trying to poo but nothing comes out, chewing of tail etc. Don't leave it too long to see a vet in case there is a blockage in there. Good luck!!

i had the same problem with my suluki x.
it took a couple of weeks to get it right it was down to its food i just must the working dog mix in with normal pedigree chum and it cleared in a couple of weeks.
if you are taking the dog hunting you should wait approx 8 hours before you take it out after feeding as this can upset its digestive system.
and dont over work the dog people think cause the dogs are desert dogs used to chase gazelles that they can run for ever but they also forget the important fact that nowadays when they are used to hunt gazzeles there is usualy a bird used to pester and slow down the quarry this is known as chirc hawking.
also try boiled tripe it is good for putting a bit of healthy weight on the dogs.let it cool first

It sounds like he probably has worms.
Take him to the vet or buy a de-wormer.
