If the relgious want to promote absteinance how come they dont support porn, strippers, sex toys, tossing -- off, bean flicking etc... Or even oral ...
As thats what absteinance is really about... Single people have the same needs and feelings and desires and urges as those in married couples and get frustrated and stressed and lonely.
So why then do relgious groups criticise and condems the alternatives to sex ie 1001 ways to pleasure yourself, Become the biggest sellers of sex toys and porn, or strip joints? In particular to teenagers who are the horniest and who these peole want to abstain the most? It beats the next alternative... becomming violent, nasty and hurtful calling people dirty fornicating wicked whores and abusing kids.

So we're just supposed to let our kids have sex whenever they feel like it? This is supposed to prevent my daughter from becoming a prostitute??? And my sons from becoming sex addicts????
I have four teens. We have been talking about sex for years now.
Sex is not evil or sinful. It's a responsibility. Teenagers don't usually act with the future in mind. If it feels good now, they do it. But as a parent it's my job to inform them of the possible consequences of having sex. It's also my job to teach them that they can't act on every "urge" that they have.
(It's self control, you know)
There are a lot of studies that show porn is addictive. I would be a bad parent if I let my kids smoke crack, right? I think that I'd be as equally bad in letting my boys look at XXX rated movies.
Besides, my kids aren't violent, nasty, or child abusers because we don't let them do whatever they want to.
I can't find any logic in your argument. Even oral sex can transmit STD's. And you forgot one key word...ADULT. Single ADULT people can do whatever they wish. They have the life experience (one would hope) to deal with the results of their actions. Single CHILDREN do not. Teens are still children!
How many welfare babies are YOU willing to support??? This is a direct product of letting teens have sex. If common sense won't sway you, maybe a hit to your wallet will.
Edit: 3 of my boys have girlfriends and my daughter has a boy friend. They are supervised by all of the parents involved. One of my sons has had other girfriends & he didn't have sex with any of them. We have had friends & family who have been through teen pregnancy & the aftermath. My kids learned a valuable lesson from them.
So your abstinance = lonely people theory holds no water either!

My view is that sex should mean something other than a cheap thrill. Porn, masturbation and sex toys have no emotional involvement other than lust. Strippers and prostitutes are just a business arrangement with both sides having little respect for the other.
The "purpose" of sex is to create children. Yes, I know that birth-control methods are available, but they are not infallible. There is no guarantee of safety from STD's and other infections, condoms can split.
One of the main reasons for promoting abstinence outside marriage is to make sex as safe as possible, no STDs, no unwanted children, etc. Sex is an addictive experience, once you've had it you usually want to repeat the experience, within marriage you have a safe, if not always constant, outlet for sexual desire.
Another major reason is that it demonstrates self-control and restraint, thinking about consequences rather than bodily desires. To use an example, we don't give children nothing but sweets (which they love), we give them nutritious food (which they are noticeably less keen on) to ensure they grow up to be healthy.

Well, I did not have sex until I was married, and I did not become a stripper or a prostitute. You are right that singles have needs and feelings, but that does not mean we are to act on every feeling or need we have. If God says that sex is to be saved for marriage, it is not a suggestion. It is for our best- something special between a husband and a wife. Just because you feel like doing something it does not make it right. Teaching abstinence does not promote prostitution- that is one of the worst arguments against God's truth that I have ever heard.

Have you never heard of self-discipline? My goodness - you act like we are all animals and can't control our own urges. It is really not that hard. Sex is a mind issue not just hormones (they tend to follow the mind) - so the Bible gives us clear instructions -"think on these things" and the fruit of the Spirit "self-control."
