I took Mirtizipaine for about 8 months and I did gain some weight although not excessively. If you read up about the side effects one of them is that you gain weight.

Unfortunately for me they didn't work they didn't help with my anxiety or depression at all. The only time they helped me to sleep was the very first couple that I took after that I seemed to get used to them and they had no effect on me. Hopefully they will be of more use to you

Until you mentioned it, I had never heard of Mirtazipine but now know it to be an anti-depressant.

Firstly, some drugs do cause weight gain. My mother was on a cocktail of pills after her cancer treatment and did gain some weight. Looking at the side effects of this particular dug, weight gain, increased appetite and raised cholesterol levels are noted.

I don't know the exact reason you have been put on this medication but I have supplied a link to medicinenet.com to help you out. If I were you I would seek a second opinion on both your condition and whether or not this drug is correct for you. If a little weight gain is your only major side effect to getting better then tough it out for now and nip to the gym once your treatment is finished.

Hope this helps and good luck.

My husband has been on Mirtazipine for 3 years, he exercises everyday and will be competing in natural Bodybuilding at the end of the year, everyone thinks he is on steroids but it is the medication, instead of the weight gain going to fat he turned it into muscle. Just make sure you eat right and get enough exercise it will help you both mentally and physically.

Well it doesn't directly make you gain weight, it can slow down your metabolism as it is also a sedative which means weight gain, several things you can try is make a exercise schedule and stick with it, adjust your diet, also have a good talk with your Dr., mirtazipine is one of those unusual drugs that strangely has more side effects at lower doses, so talk to your Dr. about adjusting your dosage.
