You can freeze it with the butter and milk in it - I often do this. Make up a big batch, then divide it into individual portions in freezer bags, and freeze. Then you can just defrost the right amount when you want it. Perfect when you're ina hurry!

I freeze mashed potato regularly,
i make it with butter in and then freeze
as it begins to thaw it looks revolting but once heated up to an edible temperature it is fine - as if it has been made fresh.
I usually heat it in the microwave and stir every few minutes.

Use cream instead of milk and a little butter, then once thawed and warmed add some more butter and give a good stir.

yes....you can keep it about a month (depending the rating of your freezer) nothing untoward will happen to butter or milk when thawed as you can freeze both anyway

I think you can freeze the whole lot, with butter and milk, but not with garlic. That would become bitter on defrosting and reheating.

you can freeze it with milk and butter added, though when you defrost it you might like to add a bit more to perk it up again.
