ICU in hospital is a separate unit or room for emergency patients called as "Intensive Care Unit". This unit will always be situated near to the Doctors Cabin so that if any emergency occurs, doc can rush to the patient immediately and the patients will be always on special vigilance.
In this unit u can find most of the patients struggling with their last stages of life, mostly will be put on to the ventilation(Oxygen). So this room is kept seperate from the other in- patients.

There are also various types of ICU units. Some of them include neonatal, pediatrics, medical, cardiac, surgical, maternal, neuro-trauma and so on. Not every hospital has every one of specialty units though, but most do have a general ICU unit for adults.
