I am replacing a tired 2megapixel camera and thought I might buy a camcorder that takes decent stills too. I wanted to spend £150 on a camera, so thought I would push the boat out & get 2in1 camcorder with camera facility?!!

depends on how much you want to spend, please remember that the still pictures are a secondary device and therefore aren't as good, top end megapixela is around 4, which when you loook at cheap digi cameras nowadays the lowest is 5.

There a few camcorder that do it, must using the sd card format ( so you have to buy a card too ), hitachi ( seen a dvd camcorder with still £200, is the cheapest, not great specs tho ), sony and panasonic are the makes to go for.

Happy clicking

You'll pay through the nose to get a 2 or 3 MP camcorder, because it only needs 380K to make a video image.

You might want to consider getting a HD camcorder. That requires 2 MP to do the job and it would give you decent stills.

Most camcorders have a megapixel still camera feature, but it is no match for a dedicated digital still camera, even if the megapixel rating is the same. It's a nice thing to have, but if you plan on printing and enlarging your stills, get a digital still camera.

I have a Sony DCR-PC350E which takes 3mbp stills and vidoes very competently. Unfortunately they are not available now, unless someone has a remainded stock somewhere. But the new Sony Handycam HDR-HC3E can take 4mbp stills is also high-def and has very good reviews. I find that for most snaps, the 2in1 is very convenient.
