You can have a drink but in moderation but there are some drugs that should never be mixed with alcohol. The more common anti biotics are ok though with a few drinks.

This is partly a myth, but does have a basis in fact. Some types of antibiotic are rendered less effective by alcohol, and there are some which can have a reactive effect which will make you very ill, can cause vomiting etc. The information supplied with the antibiotic will tell you if this is a medicine you must not take with alcohol.
Many antibiotics are completely unaffected by alcohol, but as others have said, it's not a good idea to drink when you are sick.

there are a few reasons.
1. taking alcohol can actually alter the amount of drug that your body can get rid of and by taking them together you can actually get toxicities
2. alcohol can cause worsening side effects if you take it with the antibiotics
3. you're sick. why would you drink alcohol? alcohol lowers your immune system and doesn't let your body fight off the infection as well. antibiotics are great for helping killing all the bugs but your immune system still needs to be in good shape to make sure you dont get secondary infections

The reason one is on antibiotics is because presumably they have an infection. These infections are caused by a bacteria growing in the body. Alcohol is full of sugar, and like all living things, sugar helps bacteria to thrive. Thus, there is no point in trying to kill the infection/bacteria at the same time as you feed it with sugar

They can stop the antibiotics from working and also could lower your tolerance to alcohol which could get you really drunk very fast.

Alcohol could render the antibiotic inactive, and also prevent its absorption

Alcohol can cause an adverse reaction to the drug, giving very unpleasant and sometimes dangerous side effects.

the drug is fine, and the alcohol is fine ,until you mix the two together.
