I would like to know of a paint recipe because it is to expensive to buy for my children.

I've seen some pretty inexpensive kid's paint being produced by crayloa, or the same makers of crayon. It's tempera (once egg based) paint that comes in these quart containers. It's much better than getting involved with the messy ordeal of making your own paint, washing everything, and finding the containers to put them in.

you can use different food ingredients such as red beets for the color red, tee bag for different brown shades and a combination of powders (from cheep makeup to rocks grounded) with special oil (leave to rest for at least a day before using).
also you can use dried food itself with glue to make paintings (using pasta, rice, dried beans and lintels).
