Newbie can just mean that you're new to something and can be quite an endearing and affectionate term. If you do something that's slightly odd, you might be used for, 'don't worry, he's only a newbie'. In some games and forums however, the word is contracted to 'noob' and is often used as an offensive term, to show somebody who doesn't understand the rules, has no honour in a game or is just plain stupid.

Means you are new to somewhere :)
A newbie is a newcomer to a particular field, the term being commonly used on the Internet, where it might refer to new, inexperienced, or ignorant users of a game, a newsgroup, an operating system or the Internet itself.

A newbie is like a rookie or starter and if it refers to being new to a place it like being called a Blow-in.

Taken from the TV show Scrubs - it means you're a 'John Dorian': a geeky newcomer to an institution.
