while trying to play music video on media player9 a message pops up(error 18)saying to upgrade to the final release of media player9. how do i do this?

Go to fileforum.com and there search for mplayer9 or media player 9 or whichever is the latest version and download it. U can directly install the new version or u mite uninstall ur earlier version and then install this new version. To uninstall ur earlier version go to control panel Add/Remove Programs and there select media player and say remove after u've removed delete this particlular folder of media player if any from the Program files folder and restart ur PC and now install the new version.

You should have an icon for Windows Update in your start menu. Simply connect to Windows Update and download the file along with all of the current patches.
