Islam.
We are not allowed to make images of any animate object - any person or animal.- this was one of the reasons for Muslims getting upset about the Danish cartoons.
Images include photography, drawing, sketching, carving statues and filming.
I am not certain about all the reasons. One of the reasons I know of is that in the past imagery has resulted in idolatory after a long period of time.

In line with islamic teaching Allah the only one God does not prohibite for making photography of a person. But Allah does not allow muslims to make statues from woods or stones or make a painting of person or any animal or other life creatures because Allah will ask the person in the life after death to blow soul to tho se statues and pictures of creatures..And we can not do it.because we have no power for that.Idolatery is prohibited in Islam.Muslims are not allowed to pray to statues or pictures.because it will be a syirik that makes other god than Allah the only one God.

im a photographer, and for over 30 yrs ive photographed all sorts, and of the few refusals ive had, its not been about religion.
i think youre confusing 200 years ago with today. when frieze green showed his moving images, the theatre emptied as screaming folks left, terrified. if i recall all it was was a train...
many maori and aborigine tribesmen stood, happy to be photographed... as did the american indians. (by eduard maybury) only film makers (movies) decided to use this as a counterpoint to demonstrate the natives ignorance and apparent stupidity... it is of course all B/S...

I'm pretty sure aboriginals believe that taking photos will capture their soul and looking at photos or viewing film of people that have died is disrespectful.
Aboriginals are very respectful of their ancestors beliefs and the elder aboriginals are very superstitious.

I know the Amish do.I think they believe it violates Exodus 20:4,"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."
