I don't normally agree in asking for diagnosis over the internet like this but i need a place to start some research of my own.
My mum flips in and out of moods in seconds, she becomes so enraged that she shouts and drags up anything and everything to hurt people, from the ridiculous eg. 'i caused my grandfather's death', despite the fact that he had a long term illness. to the even more ridiculous ' you need serious mental help, all your friends are crazy too!' -what the? she is extremely bitter and self absorbed. She seems to find it terribly difficult to sympathise or empathise with anyone else's problems, yet when she has a minor problem she expects everyone to drop everything and come to her aide. She also thinks because she is slightly stressed it is an excuse to be a complete nasty ***** to everyone around her. She is obsessed with control and obsessed with money. She thinks everyone is out to rip her off somehow. She can become extremely angry, aggresive and vindictive in

seconds then she just seems to conviently forget how she treated you and expect you to jump with her mood swings and be happy again. i don't even know if it is an illness or she is just one of those people to avoid at all costs but i am curious if anyone has experienced some of these behaviours and knows what it could be.
thanks

Yes, these are common symptoms of a few mental illneses, but they may also be signs of (not knowing her age) menopause. If it is the former, than there are ways to treat it. But only a licensed Mental health professional in your area can make that determination.
If it be the latter, well then, you're gonna have to ride it out, and hope your head stays connected to your shoulders for the entire ride.

You can't just "become" mentally ill. Mental illness is a malfunction of the brain and its connections. Was this man in an accident??? Did he have a cat scan done? He could have a tumour in the brain and it's affecting the nerves in his eyes. I hope he was thoroughly checked BEFORE being diagnosed with a mental illness.

No thiese are not signs of Mental Illness, these stymptoms are "Mood Swings" which can be treated and cured very easily with the use of the Homeopathic Remedy IGNATIA AMARA in 30X potency taken three times a day half hour before meals and follow it up with ARSENICUM ALB in 30X potency half hour after meals, Homeopathic remedies do not have any side effects and they do not cause any complications. She will be back to a normal happy person in a few days of using these remedies. To read more about these remedies click the links below :-

Please keep me posted about her progress if you decide to treat her with these remedies, avoid Chocolates , Coffee, Red Meat , Mints and Rich Spicy Food while taking Homeopathic remedies.
Take Care and God Bless you !

It could be a sickness or
Plain just nasty to relieve her stress
people can get nasty when they are stressed out of their brain
She even could be having a nervous breakdown as well
you really should try to get her to go to the Dr somehow
tell her how its causing you great stress & you want her to at least go to the Dr & find out what it is so you can stop worrying
about her

Oh Colonel... it's you again..... another one of these questions... hmmmmmm this gets mysteriouser and mysteriouser!!!
Since this is your mum... and in previous questions you have said that you have a mental illness ..... and that added that you are caring for someone who has a mental illness.... I am thinking this could be you wanting a dignosis for your mother ...... because diagnosis gives you a neat little label.... but then again perhaps you may find the clue in looking at what mental illness you have and then seeing if perhaps it is heriditary.... maybe you and your mother have the same thing...
hmmmm worth a thought...
But honestly if I were you I'd be talking to my therapist about this.. you really need to talk to someone who has some personal knowledge of your family..

Is she this way with everyone or just you and family, if it is everyone she could have a mental problem if it is just you and immediate family she could just be a bully and control freak and her behaviour can be controlled or contrived to get her own way. As opposed to illness over which she has no or little control

Hmmm mood swings? Is it all the time? Is it only during certain times (during her monthly cycle, when bills are due and she's stressed)? Maybe she's depressed. She should probably see a therapist.

It's hard to tell from just bits of information, but it sounds like she could be rapid-cycling bipolar. Try Googling it and see what you come up with and whether it sounds about right. The hard part will be convincing her she needs treatment, if that's the case.

Has her behavior always been this way?...if not, maybe she is going through menopause..ungracefully....or she could just be a mean nut....
I'm sorry ,I truly don't know...my father ,I lost my mom years ago, always leaned toward being a mean SOB...and the older he gets the worse he gets......some relatives think he might be losing his mind...but he seems really no different than he always was ..just meaner......so ,I tend to think its just a bad trait that is coming out more now that he is older.....
you have my condolences..either way....
