I read this topic in LETTERS TO EDITOR date2./8/07. I was very shocked that a mother would take a dog over her child.I am a pet lover too,but I will never compare my child to a pet. Thank you very much for your time to answer my question.

I think it depends on a few things. A few years ago, I thought I wanted to have a baby. I had just graduated from college and I was ready for the next stage in my life. I got a cat instead. I loved playing with her and the company, but I also still had my freedom to do whatever I wanted to do. Now that I am a little bit older, I'm glad that I didn't attempt to have a child then, because I wasn't ready. Now I'm finishing up my Grad degree and I will have a beautiful baby girl around my 25th birthday. Even now I am anxious and have many questions. I am very glad that I waited. Would I chose a pet over my baby? Not in a million years!

I also love my dogs very much and am devastated if anything happens to them. But my children are far more important and always come first. I have taught my children to respect animals and they are horrified by anyone who would abuse them. My 14 year old got asked by a friend if he wanted to go pig shooting the other day. He was horrified that this boy would actually want to witness a pig being shot. They respect animals and hopefully will grow up with values that not only will make them good pet owners but good parents as well.

I personally would choose my children over pets 100% of the time. I respect that some people are very devoted to their pets, but to actually choose a pet over your own child is sooo wrong. Some people should never have children!

Have had 5 dogs and I can take care of myself in old age. Plus, you get to pick out the dog that fits your personality and there is not a guilt trip to pay car insurance and college tuition.

Child. Dogs don't learn to talk.

I'd _love_ it if my cat would learn to talk, but, sadly, no luck there. So we're reproducing instead.

No way i love my two dogs but when you have children they come first always!
And my 2 dogs were just as hard work as puppies as my daughter.
