The best gift I ever got was from my father just a few short months before he died. He knew I was struggling to maintain our property on my own as my husband has to spend a lot of time away. He also knew that my ride on mower was never going and when it was going it would drop the belt every second. So he gave me a ride on mower for my birthday. I wasnt used to getting expensive gifts, but the cost of it was not the point it was the fact that he knew me so well. He would never have bothered to buy me jewellry or perfume as he knew I am not really into it. I think of him whenever I mow the lawns.

My girlfriend (wife without the papers, really) threw me a Surprise 30th Birthday Party which in itself was an incredible gift but then she played a picture montage that included old photos of friends and family as well as a clip of us hiking & skydiving together (our first and only time (so far) for another birthday present... isn't she great!).

I make video's for a living and take great pride in touching people with personal video's but having it done for me didn't make it any less powerful. I laughed and cried and now my kids (and the rest of us) love to watch this little piece of our family history.

You can probably even do it by yourself or with a friend with a half decent computer, video camera and some thought. A word of warning here. I've only seen two (out of over 100) that weren't done by pro's that were any good.

I got many wonderful gifts from my ex-gf, but the one thing I really loved aside from the cashmere sweater and 2 leather jackets was a lava lamp. I had never had one. As a child of the '60's, she felt it was only right that I should have one.

During a sickness, a neighbor and her 3 small children brought over chicken soup, sang songs, and said a prayer. It was a simple gesture of love, genuine and from the heart.
