In high school classes we have learned about the co-ordinate axes. There are three axes, X,Y & Z. These three axes join at Origin, towards right side, upward and front directions, these axes have positive values and towards left, bottom backside of the origin , the axes have negative values. At the origin, all the axes have the value zero. Along the x-axis, the values of y and z are zero, along the y-axis, values of x& z are zero, along z-axis, values of x & y are zero. Even if a point has some values in two of the coordinate axes, it will be only in the third axis and will not be seen clearly. These are called as dimensions.
In high school classes we have learned how to solve quadratic equations where only x& y are to be found out. In higher classes we may learn that in addition to the tree dimensions X,Y & Z( LENGTH, BREADTH AND THICKNESS if considered for a physical object), we have many other parameters that could be measured for the same object. For example, the colour, the density, the temperature…
Each measurable quantity is a dimension. Hence, it is clear that for an object, there are many dimensions. In maths examination students may ask to solve problems with multiple dimensions. Sometimes one of the dimensions may be zero. Some students, while solving the problem, may find this variable first and may become worried: they may think that they are in the wrong route and may stuck up there itself and may waste their valid time. Intelligent students know that chances are there that the person who made the question can keep one or more variables as zero and hence no need to stop then. They may proceed further and get all the other variables too. Finally they may put the values in the given equation and then again verify whether their answers are correct or not
Every life is an N-Dimensional equation. Health, wealth, beauty, fame, …. are its dimensions. It is our duty to find the values of all the variables of the equation. Sometimes some of the variables have the value zero. But we should not stop solving it. We should continue solving it until the last moment.
Many people argue that they have not stopped but they are active and hence solving the equation. However, they may be pretending that they are solving but internally they are well aware that they dont know how to solve it. They may tell that "I know that this variable is zero and hence I am not worried about it. Now my only worry is about my other variables such as my career....." But if we closely observe them or they themselves observe, it can be easily understood that their potential is low when compared to the past and hence performance is not at the satisfactory levels to themselves.
However, if they are really active, they will be in full potential and will be able to do what ever they wish to do : to themselves and to others.

Many western scientists tried to locate the seat of
Life. Some proposed the heart to be the seat of Life.
Just because the heart stopped beating, you can not say
that the person is dead. So it is with breathing. There
are many cases in medical history that people revived
to life after some hours of stopping of the heart. Some
medical experts theorised that a body will not revive
after it's brain ceases to emit the electrical signals.
Even this theory could not stand the test of truth.
Modern medicine knows that the first organ to decompose
in a dead body is the private organ. There is not
single case in the medical history that a person
revived after the private organ started decomposing.
Chandogya Upanisad says (VI.5.4):
" Water when drunk becomes three fold; it's coarsest
portion becomes the urine; it's middle portion the
blood, and it's subtlest portion Praana."
Hence, the water excretion organ is the seat of life.
A few Upanishads speak of another word Mukya Prana. It
is located at the pineal gland in the brain. It is also
called Jeeva (liveliness), or Ojas (vital essence). The
word Aayus (longevity), used in astrology, was derived
from the word Ojas. Western medicine also knows that if
the pineal gland is removed through surgery, the person
will not survive.
During 1800s, Anthropologists had a problem as to how
to classify human beings. One resercher proposed the
expression "intelligent animal". After advanced studies
on monkeys, it was dropped. Another reseacher proposed
"tool using animal". After observing some animals
making wooden tools and sharpening them with knife like
stones, it was dropped. Another researcher proposed
"weapon using animal". A decade ago, a rare film was
shot in African forests. One short monkey was hit very
badly by a big monkey. The short monkey prepared a
wooden knife using stones and hid it on the top of a
tree. After some days, when the big monkey came to
attack the short monkey, it ran up to the tree for the
weapon it has hid and killed the big monkey. The one
thing that the anthropologists found with any group of
human beings, even if they did not have contacts with
the out side world for thousands of years, is
spirituality with some form of religion. So, man is a
"spiritual animal" if you want to call him that way.
"Manush" (human) was so named because he has "Manas" a
mind higher than that of the animals which realises the
divinity in creation. It was present since the creation
of human beings.
The aim of life is to understand the greatness of the
creator. And to search for the purpose for which a soul
is given human life. This purpose differs from person to person
because it is dependent on the past Karma of the soul.
But one thing is sure. Human beings are the highest of
all creation. The rest of the creation is intended for
use by human beings. How you use is dependent on
your mantal attitude.

Very Good Question. The issue is not only about doing away with evaluation on the basis of bookish knowledge and memory but what to do in its place? To my mind, the word "bookish" actually implies impractial and therefore we should cover all aspects(big picture) of what maybe deemed practical education instead of just discussing the curriculum.
Even mystics like Osho and Krishnamurthy have said that through Education alone, social transformation is possible and both also stressed the need for education to fulfill its real purpose- help the child find his vocation in life. I could not trace the link of the origninal article "As a Parent" by Wipro Chairman Azim Premji but his words are worth repeating :-
"The primary purpose of a school is to guide the child’s discovery of herself and her world and to identify and mature the child’s talents. Just as each seed contains the future tree, each child is born with infinite potential. In the article he suggests that many teachers and parents try to be potters instead of Gardners in moulding their children’s future.” Imagine a school in which sees children as seeds to be nurtured-here the teacher is a gardner who tries to bring out the potential already present in the child. This is very different from the current view which sees the child as clay to be moulded where the teachers and parents are potters deciding what shape the clay should take. There is an old Chinese saying ,” Give a seed to a potter and you shall have a bonsai." In a nutshell, as a teacher and parent, be a gardner, not a potter..
The great Phislosopher Socrrates had said "Education is not the filling of a vessel but the kindling of a flame". The word Education itself comes from the word "Educere" which means to bring out what is already in and not blindly stuff in. The purpose of Education is to detect talent proactively. For this, it is essential that education has to be based on application and intelligence( with open book exams wherever necessary) instead of trying to test memory of knowledge. This is especially so in the era of internet where everybody can have the knowledge but it is only one's intelligence with which one can distinguish or differentiate oneself. Memory does not have that much significance since everything is there on the net- its application that should matter and be tested. Since people tend to remember more of what they happen to be interested in, memory can be a tool to know vocation instead of an end in iteself. Children can be made aware of main memory techniques.

we are given birth. We should live happily with what is available and pass away when death comes. If we have aim in our life, we will face sufferings and we will be utter failure in our life and grief alone will remain while we die.

Our aim in life is to satisfy our God. That doesn't mean to pray all day and night, but you can enjoy a normal happy life (work, study, entertain, sleep, eat, etc.) as long as you do everything with the intention to please God. For example, I entertain to renew my energy to be able to continue work and studying.

LIFE IS Like AN EXAM...
THE FOLLOWING IS A POEM WHICH I HAVE WRITTEN MYSELF-What is life?
Some seconds of friendship,
Some seconds of law ship.
Some minutes of mates,
Some minutes of hates.
Some hours to have honey,
Some hours to earn money.
Some days of sad emotions,
Some days of their solutions.
Some weeks to go mad,
Some weeks to become sad.
Some months for the creator,
Some months for his creations.
This forms some years...................
All this is life.......
Which turns to become live.

The essence of human existence is that they take birth only to work out their karma. As long the balance of karma, remain in your account, you will not be freed from the cycle of birth and death. This is the fundamental truth behind our existence.

we have to ask ourselves a further question. When you see a bridge, a building or an automobile, you automatically consider the person or company that constructed it. When you see a large ship, an airplane, a rocket, a satellite; you also think about how incredible it is. [You know by its design who the maker is.] When you see a super international airport, nuclear plant or an orbiting space station you have to be thoroughly impressed with the engineering dynamics that are involved. Yet, these are just things that are manufactured by human beings. So what about the human body with its massive and intricate control systems? Think about it.
Think about the brain: how it thinks, functions, analyzes, retrieves and stores information, as well as distinguishes and categorizes information in a millionth of a second, all of this constantly.
Think about the brain for a moment. (And don't forget the fact that you are using your brain to consider itself!) This is the brain that made the automobile, the rocket ships, the boats, and so on. Think about the brain and who made that!
Think about the heart. Think about how it pumps continuously for sixty or seventy years [taking in and discharging blood throughout the body] maintaining steady precision throughout the life of the person.
Think about the kidneys and the liver and the various functions they perform. The purifying instruments of the body that perform hundreds of chemical analyses simultaneously and also controls the level of toxicity in the content of the body. All of these are done automatically.
Think about your eyes, the human cameras, that adjust, focus, interpret, evaluate, discern color automatically, naturally receiving and adjusting to light and distance.
Think about it-Who created them? Who has mastered their design and function? Who plans and regulates their function? Human beings do this? No, of course not. What about this universe?
Think about this. This earth is one planet in our solar system, and our solar system is one [of possible many] solar systems. Our galaxy, The Milky Way, is one of the galaxies. There are ONE HUNDRED MILLION GALAXIES in the universe. They are all in order and they are all precise. They are not colliding with each other. They are not conflicting with on another. They are swimming along in an orbit that has been set for them. Did human beings set that into motion and are human beings maintaining that precision? No, of course not.
Think about the oceans, the fish, the insects, the birds, the plants, bacteria, and chemical elements that have not yet been discovered and cannot be detected even with the most sophisticated instruments. Yet each of them has a law that they follow. Did all of this synchronization, balance, harmony, variation, design, maintenance, operation and infinite numeration happen all by chance? Do these things function perfectly and perpetually also by chance? No, of course not. That would be totally illogical and foolish. In the least, it indicates that however it came to exist-it exists beyond the realm of human capability. We will all agree to that. The Being, The Almighty Power, God, The Creator who has the knowledge to design and proportion created all of this and is responsible for maintaining it. HE is the only one that deserves praise and gratitude.
If I were to give each one of you one hundred dollars for no reason, just for being here, you would at least say thank you. What about your eyes, your kidneys, your brain, your children, and your life: Who gave you all of that? Is He not worthy of praise and thanks? Is He not worthy of your worship and recognition?
My brothers and sisters, that in a nutshell, is the goal and purpose of this life. Allah said to us in the Holy Quran: "And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me." [Surah 51: Ayah 56] this is what the Almighty said.
Our purpose in this life is to recognize The Creator, to be grateful to Him, to worship Him, to surrender ourselves to Him and to obey the laws that He has determined for us. It means worship is our purpose in life. Whatever we do in the course of that worship, [i.e., the eating, the sleeping, the dressing, the working, the enjoying,] between birth and death is consequential and subject to His orders. But the main reason for our creation is worship. I don't think anyone who is analytical or scientific will have much of an argument with that purpose. They may have some other reason with themselves-but that is something they have to deal with between themselves and Almighty God.
