A new man is brought into Prison Cell 102.

Already there is a long-time resident who looks 100 years old.

The new man looks at the old-timer inquiringly.

The old-timer says, "Look at me. I'm old and worn out.

You'd never believe that I used to live the life of Riley.

I wintered on the Riviera, had a boat, four fine cars, the most beautiful women, and I ate in all the best restaurants of France."

The new man asked, "What happened?"

"One day Riley reported his credit cards missing!"

well really it shouldnt cost anything! The state gov. receives a whole lot of funding for corrections each year. The state gov. wastes so much of the money on employees that it does not need and transporting the prisoners when it is not necessary and research and high tech eqipment that is really useless. I have really researched this and I cannot explain what they do with all this money. They say it is supervision fees and food and clothing that cost so much, an average of 60,000 a year per inmate, but I have two kids that I feed clothe and pay 198 a week for daycare and I dont make 60,000 a year. Just a comparision I know it is different, but my point is if they just eliminated some of the ridiculous stuff it would cut the costs. For example, I live in mich. and our corrections dept. just spent 8 million dollars on equipment that allows the parole board to see the inmate over a t.v. set and communicate with them that way rather than in person. I spent 12 dollars on a web cam and can do the same thing! I understand that it is to protect people from violent offenders that will be irate because their parole id denied, but8 million is alot of money. And that doesnt even supply 1/3 of the facilities with this equiptment. They are talking about all the facilities having one. There goes more money out of the budget. And we do not pay for their cable or other entertainment like people think. They have products for the inmates can purchase with their cominsary money. They use the profits from the items to pay for all of the extras in the prisons like weight benches and cable t.v. cards... any thing extra. They also manufacture their own clothes and shoes in factories operated by the prison. They say 60,000 a year per inmate, but go take a look yourself at where the money really goes and you will see that the taxpayers only end up paying because the gov. spends way more than they need to. The federal funding alone is enough to operate the system if they would actually make a "budget". Same for schools, enough money is funded from the federal gov. to ensure proper education, they just dont spend wisely and the people end up paying taxes to make ends meet. It is really sad to see how money is wasted, and even worse to watch what happens as a result. The result is higher taxes for us.
