Hi,you don't say how old you are, but when i was in my late teens, through my twenties, I had bouts of these things.
I have more horrible images, than nightmares. I DID go to see a someone about it, and found out, that they can be the brains normal reaction to too much stress and worry, or get this: boredom.
I was too stressed.
Close your eyes, in bed, and repeat to yourself," I am safe, and protected" as many times as u need. It helped me stop those images, and calmed me. Nightmares stopped too. Take care, and get a good night's sleep!

Nightmares are a normal phenomenon. During the night our brain projects all sort of situations, sort of "testing them out"... and representing symbolic situations so they can be acted on.

This does not mean in any way that you want to live them - it is really a symbolic enactment. You don't say what kind of dreams, but it is likely that the reason they scare you so much is simply because they hit a "painful" area.

By thinking about what they may mean to you, you could be able to make them less relevant to you. Also, without going into therapy, you could see a therapist for a few sessions so that s/he can help you clarifying this (look for a reputable one...).
For example - if your dreams involve being hurt in a car accident, think about events in your past that may involve loved one in car accidents, or maybe times when you felt scared either as a driver, a passenger or a potential victim. Maybe you just were a witness of an accident! Or, if your dream is of being in the jungle attacked by wild animals, you could simply be worried about what could happen if you are alone, and that people (wild animals) may hurt you... Hey, these are just simplified examples to give you the gist...

It important to realize that a full therapy has a larger scope than just stopping nightmares, and may last years. I would only suggest that if you really feel you need it.

i have alot of nightmares, but they are just that, nightmares.

if something happened to you in the past that you know is causing the nightmares then you might want to seek attention, but it is normal realy.

before you go to bed, try laying there and clear your mind. Just think of your day, what you have to do tomorrow, but dont linger on any thought. Just let them come and go. The ultamate goal is to realax, be sure that no part of your body is tense, and that you are breathing properly. Pretent that your stomach has a balloon in it and you want to fill it up with every breath. Eventualy you will become extreamly relaxed, and most likely fall asleep without noticing.

Ask your regular doctor first and if he recommends therapy then go. sometimes nightmares and dreams are just a way of working out something in our subconscious that happens in our every day lives. Don't be afraid.

I can't tell you how to stop these nightmares, but you need to see a professional therapist. You need to find out what is causing them and work on those problems before you can stop them.

first lets get you a journal of your evenings activities say...4 to 5 hours before you turn in, what you did, ate, etc ...all the way up to going to bed...keep a daily log, then if you have bad dreams, write them down to the smallest detail, then get some licensed help so they will have some background on what and how, then you can work on why...good luck!

Seeing horrible images can actually point to a medical problem. Check with your doctor first and see if he recommends therapy.

You did not say your age, but if you are a child, please talk with your parents, if not then yes seek help, your problem could range from something simple. like changing up the way you do things each day, being careful of what you watch on TV ect, or it could be a much more serious problem something that is rooted, it is amazing at the way our bodies try and tell us things, and please pray about your problems....Good Luck

A psychic could help you, perhaps. We all get nightmares, but those sound very bad. A naturopath could help too. There are herbs that help with nightmares.
I hope they stop.
