I think that's the proper term. Anyway, why are all people considered sinful by nature? Why should we be judged based on decisions by our ancestors?
I like the innocent until proven guilty system more :-)

The state of Original Sin surrounds and affects every human being in the world. We do not inherit Original Sin by blood nor are we guilty of it.
The Catholic Church talks about the Fall in this way:
The account of the fall in Genesis chapter 3 uses figurative language, but affirms a primeval event, a deed that took place at the beginning of the history of man. Revelation gives us the certainty of faith that the whole of human history is marked by the original fault freely committed by our first parents.
If we assume that the theory evolution is true, the scenario might happen like this. A manlike being is slowly evolving. At some point God gives these beings a soul
These human beings lived in complete “original” holiness. They loved God with all their heart, with all their soul, and with all their mind. They loved their neighbors as much as they loved themselves.
Then the first human beings disobeyed God, choosing to follow their own will rather than God's will. This was the Original Sin.
Consequently, they lost the grace of original holiness and sin became universally present in the world.
Besides the personal sin of the first human beings, original sin describes the fallen state of human nature, which affects every person born into the world, and from which Christ, the "new Adam," came to redeem us.
With love in Christ.

Books have been written and phD studies have been done on this topic. Exodus 20: Ten Commandment say that God will only judge us on the actions of our ancestors up to approximately 4 generations, but those who love and obey him will be loved for thousends of generations. Original Sin is an old testament principle, but we are now living in New Testament times Jesus paid for our sins, therefore we can start on a clean page, by accepting Him in our lives and asking Him sincerely to forgive us for every day's wrong doings. Because God's grace is so great, He will forgive our sins if we ask Him. Then of course, we should try our very best not to repeat sins. That is the difficult part, but under the power of the God's Holy Spirit we can resist temptations!
You are innocent the moment you accept Christ in your life. Once you trully understand and accept that, the Holy Spirit will lead you to live according to God's Word (Bible)
I hope I answered your question.
I also believe in innocent until proven quilty

My interpretation of the bible is that we are with out sin until we reach the age of accountability which is the age at which a child can come to realize their faith and understands what it entails and they can understand the commandments and recognize sin, and not just their parents telling them not to do something. However I do think we all are sinners no matter what we will sin and that is what original sin means, that we all have desires, sinful thoughts, and that we will inevitably sin. So in order to be allowed into heaven we have to accept Christs' blood as the atonement for these sins.

The concept of original sin simply means that we are born with that tendency. God will not judge anyone on the basis of tendency but of actual commision or ommission.
The technical term for people who believe in original sin is 'Parents'!!

The Holy Bible; God's inspired Living Word says. Through Jesus Christ we shall not inherit the sins of our Fathers. When we accept Jesus Christ we are put on a new standing in the eyes of God. So Praise God and the Lord Jesus Christ for that.

The current thinking in Catholicism appears to lean towards original sin as man's fallibility and the innate weakness which distinguishes him from God.

Why should we be judged based on decisions by our ancestors?
We are not! This is one reason Jesus Christ became manifest; those who have faith in God and exercise faith in the salvation God provided through his son's sacrifice will be saved.
Those who do not have faith are judged from their lack of faith not because of Adam's sin!
why are all people considered sinful by nature? Just as parents may pass a genetic defect on to their offspring, sin or imperfection and thus death is passed on from parents to child!
Psalm 51:5 . . .Look! With error I was brought forth with birth pains, And in sin my mother conceived me.
Adam and Eve estranged mankind in general from God. They wanted self rule. God gave them this self-rule for a period so as to prove to mankind and the angels that we cannot do this without destroying earth and ourselves. It is for this reason he generally permits natural disasters, illnesses, and wars to happen because these problems need to be solved by those that rule.
Presently, the Bible also indicates that Satan is the ruler of our world and its nations. This sure explains all the violence and insanity we see around us.

False...
"Original sin" generally refers to the false doctrine that children are born with the guilt of sin going back to Adam and Eve. Ezekiel 18 clearly teaches the opposite.

Because Adam (the 1st man) was created in the image of God which means perfect and without any sin. Once he chose to disobey God, his perfection was no more. And so all mankind after him were created in Adam's image (with disobedient heart). Hope that helps.
