ALSO- I do not want to take meds for it EVERYDAY. Just when i feel like I am going to have a panic attack. Are there any meds out there for anxiety that I don't have to take EVERY day??

For those of you who are wondering why i want to be on meds...It's my choice. I have talked to 2 regular doctors about it. They both told me I need to see (which ever one you see first). I have severe anxiety attacks. And they affect my life. I don't want them anymore. I have them a lot esp when I go shopping. The bright lights & talking to people at cash registers make my heart race & I start to sweat. I hate it.

I also want to add that I have tried xanax in the past (a friend gave me one) while I was having a severe anxiety attack. I calmed within minutes and felt normal again.

I will ALSO add (sorry for all these added details) That I DO have anxiety. Both of my doctors (I had a different one yrs ago b4 i turned 19) told me that it sounded like social anxiety disorder. My new doctor wrote me a referral to another doctor, but I never went.

You want to be on meds? Hmm. I'd go here first and do some reading: http://www.drugawareness.org/Ribbon/SSRIMeds.html Next, I would check out the e f t site where you will find an easy to learn, and easy to apply way of dealing with anxiety-- bringing it down or wiping it out-- and also a directory for both psychologists and psychiatrists who use it as their preferred modality. All the best!

Psychiatrists are your best bet if you want meds. Who suggested meds in the first place? Can you go back to that person? Oh and they were both spelled wrong but at least you mentioned it, most people don't care. lol

Psychologist
Psychiatrist Good luck!

First you need to be PROPERLY dianosed. You can't walk in to any doctor or phychiachrist (needs to be a M.D.) and demand meds. They wouldn't take you word for it. They could get in MAJOR trouble. There are procedures they must follow. First you should go to your regular family doctor. He/ she will direct you to the proper person. You may have something differnt than anxiety and it needs to be treated properly. Plus will be getting therapy with it. They just don't give you a perscription and set you loose. You need to be FULLY treated.

You need to see both. The Phyciatrist wil prescribe medication and the Phychologist will give you the tools to work with.
One warning, Xanax is highly addictive and very difficult to get off of. I found it to be the most difficult to get off of and had to be hospitalized for a month to help. It was pure hell!

your family doctor can give you meds for that, but if you want to see someone more able in that field see a psychaitrist since they are a medical doctor as well as a mental health specialist and they can prescribe medicines as well, im not sure if a psychologist is able to prescribe medicine since they are not a medical doctor. they simply take the training in mental health. good luck

See a psychiatrist to get diagnosed and a prescription. Then see a psychologist for therapy.
