Good Scripture....proving that haters of Christians are just simply haters of Christ.
Another reason is because they hate the Word of God and are PROUD and destitute of truth ....
"If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, EVEN TO THE WORDS OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, ....he is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions ans strife of words, whereof comes envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, perverse disputing of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth....." (I Tim. 6:3)

I don't hate any of the people "witnessing". I hate the lack of understand when I don't want a one way "discussion". If you were truly interested, you would first try to understand your target, understand their point of view, and hint at to why your view may be better. Nobody I have given any serious time to has been able to match wits or logic. First you must evaluate your ENTIRE view system under the same rules. If anything requires a re-write, your views are flawed. And, quite frankly, most of the time you guys have just not thought the whole thing through.

Perhaps it is because the people I've seen "witnessing" to someone in an attempt to convert that person are usually pushing themselves and their beliefs on an unwilling subject who is constrained by the rules of propriety not to protest. It creates an uncomfortable situation. If the person wishes to convert, he or she will do it based on thoughtful consideration of many factors; those who witness by telling stories of what they believe God has done in their own lives are free to do so, and the stories might be helpful--as long as the stories do not cross the line into proselytizing and pressure on the audience to agree with the beliefs of the teller. The story should stand on its own or be an example of good living that will let others know that Christians are also good people, not just fanatics.

As a non-Christian, I have more respect for Jehovah's Witnesses than any other Christian sect, simply because they take on the hardship of witnessing to people (most of them hate it). Other so-called Christians love to pick what part of the Bible they're going to follow and what parts they aren't. It's disgusting.
And to all of you Christians with your "own religion"--have you ever stopped to think about how much of your religion is based on tradition and has absolutely NO Biblical origin? How much of your energy is concentrated on stuff Christ didn't even care about? For example, how many of you are divorced? Christ condemned divorce on no uncertain terms. But Christians get divorced all the time! And Catholics, who supposedly don't divorce (but do anyway) have false idols left and right and worship the pope (you can't tell me that ring-kissing thing isn't a form of worship). If you'd ever read the Bible, you'd realize that Christ Himself wouldn't have allowed someone to kiss His ring.
And, you people are accusing the Witness of doing EXACTLY what you do all the time. You're all out there making LAWS to make people behave according to your Christian beliefs! LAWS!
You're all HYPOCRITES! I repeat, YOU DISGUST ME!

-It shows no respect for my right to my own opinions.
-It presupposes that I haven't heard all that before.
-It incorrectly assumes that one can just start believing that for which they see no evidence
-Tick, tick, tick. As an atheist I have an accute sense of just how limited my time is, and I no more want to use it letting you "witness" to me than you want to spend an hour or more with someone trying to talk you into liking a movie you didn't care for.

Because the world says go along to get along but God says that if we love the world then the love of the Father is not in us.
edit:
to The Dude, we are witnesses of his power to save us.

There's a time and a place for everything. Sometimes it just isn't the right time to witness.
"And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet... "
So in other words, don't be a pest about it.

I don't know that I HATE people who are preaching to me.
What I hate is the notion that an all-knowing, all-powerful, omnipotent creator god FAVORS YOU because of your particular faith.
Why not try to have a little humility? Isn't that what Jesus taught?
And instead of "witnessing" to the rest of the world, why not set an example and do Jesus' work like helping people and acting selflessly?
I don't think Jesus went door to door handing out pamphlets or screaming like a madman on a street corner.

If you testify (witness is the wrong, though usual, word) in a wrong spirit, they will hate you justly for being a hypocrite.
If you testify in a right spirit they will hate you all the more, and for no reason except their preference for blindness and darkness, as the above verse foretells.
