It just describes a nervous or twitchy person. Old-fashioned rocking chairs are on curved rockers, so only part of the chair is touching the floor at any given time -- and it's always a different part. The cat doesn't quite get it -- all he knows is that suddenly his tail has been run over, and he doesn't know who did it, or how to get out of the situation.

(-: But of course, cats are pretty smart. They'd hop up on someone's lap or raise some serious cane until they were out of danger.

I think it just means really nervous because a long tailed cat in a room of rocking chairs would be very nervous because it is very likely that it's tail will get rocked upon by at least one of the chairs!

obviously rocking chairs present a chance of a cat getting its tail pinched with each rocking motion that occurs

the longer the tail the greater the risk,

the more chairs the greater the risk

so in a room full of chairs, a long tailed cat is almost assuredly going to get caught at least once

well you have to remember the pain you experienced when to were told not to touch something that is hot. that would be similar to the pain a cat has when a rocking chair catches his tail. so in a room "full "of rocking chairs (and you remember the pain from the last time your tail got caught) you would be even more nervous if you were the cat.......yeah?

did you get the picture?.......the point?
