I just saw a special on TLC about Neurofibromatosis - I bet you would be able to find a lot of current articles about it because of the recent Face transplants - its very interesting as well.

Hmmm . . . I think Marfan's syndrome and celiac disease are good candidates. I think they're both reasonably common and largely undiagnosed. Marfan's syndrome is a disease that weakens the connective tissue, causing various problems (including increased height, eyesight problems, and heart problems). Celiac disease is caused by an allergy to gluten and causes digestive problems. You could probably write a lot about either of those. Also, you could pick a mental disease also and try to tie it to the physiology of the brain. There's also been small outbreak of H5N1 (bird flu), at least in Britain. You could research that, and try to find out why it's worth worrying about. Good luck!

The Plague. Three types, bubonic, pneumonic, septicemic. Spread by rats/fleas, epidemics spanned 300 years. Annihilated 1/3 to 1/2 of Europe's population. Check it out, it's really interesting. Tons of history, plenty of information available.

Do something different, something original, something unique. Try a topic like "Bed Sores". Something that has practical applications in the Health Care environment. What do You know about the causes, effects, diagnosis or treatment ?
