I used to raise Dobermans and we did put them on a large breed puppy kibble until they were a year. NutroMax made the one we fed. However, there are even better kibbles now. The Canidae for all stages is a great one for the Dobermans. You will find it at any local (not chain) pet supply shop. I think Innova and Wellness will also say for pups and they are of suffecient quality...
The main thing is to feed a high quality kibble..
Don't let the vet talk you into Science Diet, though..They like to sell Science Diet, but it isn't the best for Dobermans.

I kept my dobie on large breed puppy until she was around 1 yr old, then switched her to an All Life Stages food. She's now on Wellness. I didn't care for Nutro when she was eating it, her skin was dry and it had too many fillers. I switched her to Solid Gold (the large breed puppy variety is called Wolfcub). She really liked it.

my breeder told me to keep mine on large breed puppy food until they are 2 years old as dobies really stay puppies until that age. I give mine nutro max large breed. She needs the large breed formula as large dogs require different nutrition than other size dogs. don't buy the cheap stuff as it has lots of corn meal etc. i tried puppy chow large breed and it was a terrible mistake.

You can also consider a food like Canidae All Life Stage which is formulated for all ages of dogs, you simply feed different amounts at different stages. This way you feed more to the developing puppy (necessary for healthy growth instead of a gangly dog) and then decrease as your dog reaches full size to a maintenance amount.

I have never heard of this. They need that extra nutrition .Look on the bag of any dog food you buy. The protein should be 26% or higher. The puppy will get more nutrition than fat. If the level is lower that means its has a lot of fat in it...and no easy way to say it they poop out more than they retain.goog luck!

It is good to have the dog on puppy food. You can actually get food for dogs up to 1 years old. I just adopted a min pin,1 1/2 month old. SO TINY. but they gave us soft dog food because hes still growing his teeth. They also gave us a bag of Science Diet Hard Food for dogs up to 1 years old. Look for iams brand if you want, I'm sure they have something like that. On the bag says that after 6 weeks is the earliest they can eat hard dog food. Hope that helped! By the way, where is the dry can located on the body?

It's not just Dobie breeders. Large breeds should have less fat in their diet to prevent them from growing too fast and causing bone, joint, weight problems

I would say a large breed puppy formula would be appropriate for her at that age.
