To the first person who answered...I never stated anywhere in my question that I was going to hang out with him...all I asked was where I could take him (he doesn't drive yet) or what I could buy him. Stop being so mean.

Aren't some nasty on this site? Did you ask your son to give you a few ideas? I always asked my children to write a few things down and I would pick one. That works for holidays and whatever. My grand children are asked to do the same. It sure makes it easy on us. If he wants you to go with him, what an honor.

Having a similar issue with my own son, I bought a 96 Plymouth Breeze that mechanically was in good condition but needed some minor cosmetic work. The car itself cost less than $1000. Needed parts can be bought in local salvage yards at considerable savings as that particular model is common. All told, we spent an additional $400 in minor repairs ,$200 of that was 4 new tires. As an incentive to peel his eyes from the computer monitor, i also purchased a high-end car stereo with built in video. This was rather pricey , just shy of $1000. I did not allow the stereo to be installed until after the cosmetic repairs had been made, this included paint touch-ups, missing trim installed, replacing one fender and a full cleaning. The above is a shortened version but i think you get the idea, the best part of all, i spent time with my son that otherwise would have been lost to cyber-space. (You do not need to be a professional tech for any of the above, sure it helps but assistance is available at low/no cost if you do your homework)

I agree with Opal Faye. Take the young man to Star Ranch for a weekend. It's a short drive from Houston.

Take him to Star Ranch near McDade, Texas. 16 year old boys and their mamas can have a good time there. Check out this link:

Best thing to do is ask him where he wants to go. If he really really wants to go somewhere in particular, then you know.
Otherwise, take him shopping & let him buy what he wants. (Don't make him get socks or something like that lol).
Happy Birthday!

Give him money and let him go with his friends. That's what all 16 year olds want. They don't want mommy hanging around.
