When I enter a number in excel it is automatically converted to fractions?

Question

When I enter a value in a cell in excel say I put 1 and press enter the number displayed in the cell is not 1 but it is 0.01 the problem does not got solved even if I open a new workbook... Pls help
the number format all is O.K if there is any default setting in windows Xp which result in so..

Try edit/clear/format if you still get the same 0.01 display.

Before entering the number in any particular cell or in a range of cells, Right click on it – Then choose Format Cells – Then from the number tab select number as category.

Highlight the cells, go up to "format", then "cells". Make sure you are in the "number" tab and within this dialog box you can change the cell's category.
