Use a tripod, but USE it. Dont stick your camera on there and sit back, sip on a beer and relax, do something! Lock off the tripod head, and extend the legs but fold them, and hold the tripod around the middle. It will instantly stabilize your shots. What I like to do is to do this, but instead of holding the tripod vertically, I hold it horizontally, but tilt the head and lock it so that the camera and tripod are both parallel to the floor. This also allows smaller cams to be shoulder mounted for some shots, to be better stabilized. And with some practice, I've done shots where I was walking, but it looked almost like a dolly shot. Also, if you can master a smooth walking shot, you could have someone else pull the zoom while you walk, creating the "move in, zoom out" effect. For example, the scene in Jaws, where the guy's on the beach, and the background expands. Yeah, the weird one, where you couldn't really explain what was happening, but it looked cool, and you wanted to recreate it, but didnt know how. And if you dont know what I'm talking about, just go out and try it, and you'll see what I mean. Also, when lighting and exposing for subjects, less is more (as cliche as that is). Try going until you get to the point where the subject is just on the edge of becoming too dark. This isn't great for all scenes or shots, but generally speaking, dont illuminate or expose a person as you would see them in real life. That's not to say make a sillohuette, but you know what I mean, just use the least possible. Hope this helps!

When shooting indoors, be sure to have proper lighting meaning get lighting accessory for the videocam to be able to record really nice videos without the shadows at the face, etc.
Also, record with normal speed (SP) to reduce pixelized videos.
Happy shooting!

Like how what and what. Depends on what youre' doing. Most people don't use tripods with fluid heads. Most people don't light their shots right. Most people pan, tilt and zoom too fast.

always keep a bit of a border of space around people you are filming. and for moving things, allow most of the space in front of the moving objects direction of travel.
