Dude,
Have you ever heard of an End-timer willing to place a wager the occurrence of the blessed-dreaded event?
Me either, but I cannot decide whether it is just weak faith or if greed trumps Christian faith. Most likely, it is the all enveloping fear and loathing self-doubt that explains the cowardly behavior.
They lack the education, and critical and creative intelligence to even recognize something as complicated as a global climate/environmental system, let alone develop a solution set.
They may stumble themselves (pulling the rest of humanity in their wake) and the earth to an end-times solution, although I am unfamiliar with any Bible verse that says God’s intention is for his followers to ‘stupid’ his creation to its destruction and, hence, be rewarded with heaven and eternal bliss.

A while ago I had this same question. But after studying the Bible, I realized that this could never be the case for a number of reasons, the main one being that even if someone read the old prophecies and decided to try to fulfill them they couldn't. They're completely out of human control. An ordinary person simply cannot raise someone from the dead, or decide where and when and how He is born, or resurrect himself from the dead. Only the Son of God could fulfill those prophecies! 2 Peter 1:20-22 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

I think some people are afraid that such a thing can or is happening; much like a human caused panic but in slow motion.
Like the idea that if you think or believe you are a failure -- guess what? More than likely you are going to be a failure!
Now at one time most everyone, at least in the western world, was in agreement that the earth was flat. Of course the belief did not result in a flat earth.
You might think of it like this: Prophecy is nothing but the projection of the future that man has been dreaming all along. Some of us call it truth because it interrupts the dream.
It is the discoveries from science that have resulted in the real negative events on earth. Short term gains for long term loss. The introduction of atomic energy, of uncountable chemical compounds, of the internal combustion engine, flight, industry, mechanized warfare, electronics, etc., etc., all bring their brands of pollution and death.
I would have to say that prophecy may give things a little push but it is pushing something that is already in process.

That's the only real worry I have regarding an "end time". That some Millenialist idiot will find a way to get into a position to trigger WWIII or some other disaster. That some religious wingnut will decide that he's going to "help things along" in some way...and does.
Think it can't happen? We've got some End-of-the-World types running Iran and Syria.

aside from some born again wackadoo in power enough to push the big red button ... not really. Fundy Rapture Christians don't give a rats azz about the Earth's Eco systems so everyone else concerned will just have to get along without their help saving our children's inheritance. Rapture Christians can't "fulfill prophesy" to suit their heavenly reward agenda so they just end up being dead and useless weight sitting around making a mess and praying while everyone else is trying to save the world.

I don't think the motives behind the government are based on religion at all. $$$ is their motive. Sadly they seem to use religion as a front for their reasoning. In my opinion most religious denominations are the same way. The world is not ending probably solely on the fact that those with power won't have it if it does end.

That has been said about Bush and his father. That we are here to use whatever we want for our own betterment and not to worry about the end result because God Willl take care of it. It just may happen but I doubt it. Al Gore is up for the Nobel and the stranglehold oil has on us wil encourage us to look toward a more equal existence with the world.

Yes what is scary is that Muslims believe in their end of times. Like the mahdi is suppose to come out when there is a lot of war. The President of Iran thinks it is his duty to start this war. He build a highway to the place where this Mahdi is suppose to come out of.
So yes the combination of these prophecies can lead to our very end.
Iran with nukes. No thank you.

There is nothing more dangerous than a fundamentalist with nuclear weapons and we have one in the white house. I completely believe humanity will be destroyed by a fundamentalist (Christian, Muslim, etc) with a nuke mutter he's doing God's will as he presses the button to kill us all.
