To paraphrase a verse from the Book of Mormon, we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins. (See 2 Nephi 25:26). The name of Jesus Christ is in the exact center of our church's name, with 3 words before and 3 words after: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That is because we believe He is the head of His own church. Have a happy day, and I send you a gummy bear.

Mormons believe that God used to be a man on another planet,He has a goddess wife,He has an actual flesh-and-bones body,He and His wife have spirit children,Jesus and Lucifer are brothers,Jesus married and had children, all people have the potential to become gods and in order to reach this exalted state of godhood, a person must first become a good Mormon, pay a full ten percent tithe to the Mormon church, and be found worthy. They believe in baptism for the dead, celestial marriage, and when you reach a god status, you inherit your own planet to control.

So,in short, their beliefs are decidedly unscriptural, and they are not Christian.
Be assured that I am not a Mormon-hater.But churches that call themselves Christian must adhere to the basic doctrines taught in the Bible, and the LDS doesn't.It's not a matter of fundamentalist Christians thinking that everyone different from them aren't Christians, but a matter of defending the basis of the Bible.

No. Not at all.

In all actuallity, the LDS church and it's beliefs range from the quite odd (in context) to the flat out scary.

First and foremost, Christians (I'm refering to mainline protestants and cathlolics) believe that there is one God with three seperate and distinctive parts - Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. This is a very, very foundational belief. If the Son is not fully one with the father, then His power is not complete, nor is the Fathers, and so on. The unity is of the utmost importance. As the book of John starts out, "In the begining was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the begining, and all things were created through Him."
That sets up the power sharing of God the Father, and the importance of the Word (Christ), as part of the God.

Mormons believe that the Father and Son are two seperate people, and that Christ is sort of a lesser being, yet still a God.

Mainstream Christians believe, again, that there is only ONE God. Mormons believe, in effect, that there are many, many, many Gods. In fact, mormons believe that if you live a good enough life, you can ascend to the celestial kingdom, and eventually become the God of your own world. (Well, at least men can become Gods of their own worlds ... women spend eternity pregnant giving birth to the people that inhabit those worlds.)
They base that off of this; "As we are, so God once was, and as God is, so can we become."

Some other very unchristian beliefs that Mormons have:
- There are, effectively, four levels of the after life. the top level being the celestial kingdom where good mormons go.
-In order to reach the celestial kingdom, one must have been married while alive.
-Women can only enter the celestial kingdom if, upon entering the celestial kingdom himself, the womans husband calls out her name. If he does not, she cannot enter the highest level of heaven.
-Current "Prophets," or church presidents, have the power to alter any and all church beliefs. All things are viewed as open to change according to the visions of the prophet.
-The bible is very flawed. Only the Book of mormon is correct.
-Jesus and Satan are brothers.
-The God of our world is Adam - as in from Adam and Eve.
-Christ's death was not enough to get people to heaven.
-Jesus, after death, visited North America and continued his ministry.
-Native americans and africans were given a darker skin complection to indicate them as cursed.

That really only scratches the surface, suffice to say, you should probably look more into mormon beliefs. There are some very, very odd ones.

Yes I believe.

Mormons believe this ...
================================
The Church has 4 Standard Works that are authoritative: The Bible (in so far as it is translated correctly), the Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price. Speeches and writings of the current president of the church are also authoritative. The Bible is far below the other standard Works because it is full of errors (wherever it disagrees with Mormon doctrine).

Christians believe this ...
================================
The only authoritative scriptures given by God are the 39 books of the Old Testament and the New Testament of the Bible. God promised to preserve his word and to suggest that the Bible was mistranslated and corrupted would be to call God a liar. If God were to give additional revelations they would be consistent with any prior revelations thus eliminating Mormon writings, since they stand in direct opposition to the divine revelation that has already been given in the Bible.

Let's see; the name of the religion is "the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints."....the Church of JC...Christ...Christian...

Gee, what do you think?

Why would you even ask the question? Have you heard otherwise? Have you actually checked it out? Been to a service, met members of the church? Read the "Book of Mormon (Another Testament of Jesus Christ)"? Probably not if you can ask this question.

Instead of listening to other ignorant people who don't even know enough to ask the question, go to a meeting house and find out for yourself. don't read a lot of "anti" propaganda; find out first hand.

Those who attack LDS think that they have the monopoly on the route to Heaven. If you are not a Baptist/Apostolic/COG/(chose your particular sect) you will suffer eternal damnation. Guess what, Mormons take Jesus at his word that there are many mansions - many ways to salvation. The way through LDS may be easier and safer, but there are other ways....so if by "Christian" you mean prejudiced, hate-filled ideologues, then no, Mormons are not that kind of Christian. but if you mean one who follows Jesus, then yes, Mormons are Christians.

I don't want to jump on anyone, but I have been on these boards for maybe three weeks, and have seen this same question posted so many times that I wonder if anyone reads anything that others have posted, or if the R&S boards are peopled by such egotists that no one else but themselves matters

They say yes, but most Christian denominations say no. The main reason is that a basic tenet of Christianity - the Paschal Mystery of the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit, 3 distinct beings, yet ONE)- is NOT accepted by the Mormons.

Strictly speaking, yes. The believe in a man named Jesus and that he was the Son of God, and that the Bible was his word. Smith just added a few new books of his own invention.

Don't look at me like that. Do you seriously believe the Bible HASN'T been edited or added to for political convience over the years? At least Smith was more creative than most.

The Mormon believes that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior. I am not Mormon but I respect their beliefs concerning marriage and family and their devotion to their church. Many of us could learn much from them. If the scripture , "Ye shall know them by their fruits" means anything....Look at the Mormon church and it's success>

It doesn't matter what mormons are, they are absolutely insane.

The cockamamie bull sheet story of smith's translated mystical (yet strangly missing) golden tablets is complete hogwash.

Smith was a complete attention whore who wanted to be worshiped and followed.

Believing in that is worse than believing in some invisible sky wizard that can do absolutely anything on a whim, yet chooses to allow the immense suffering by the majority of his "children"

Just sayin.

YES, but they have a belief in another testament that the main christian body rejects, just as the catholic church bases some of there beliefs on other writings than the holy bible. The main thing is the belief in christ as the son of god and the redeemer for our sin.
