It takes however long it takes to investigate an accident. We speak with the drivers, the passengers, the witnesses. We look at photos--they are very telling. We get scene photos if necessary. If needed we get an accident reconstructionist to help us figure it out. There's lots of things we do to investigate a loss depending on the complexity of the claim. Sometimes, we even talk to the cops themselves for clarification of their report if need be.

Most insurance companies try to resolve liability within 30 days. That is not to say that all issues are resolved within that time period, but the bulk of the investigation should be complete by then. There are circumstances where the damage can assist in determining who is at fault but more often than not it doesn't help. If you feel the insurance adjuster did not understand everything you described over the phone then go back and take your own pictures, draw a diagram pointing out the important things the adjuster needs to know. Another words, take charge and do some of the work yourself. It is in your best interest after all.

Depends on your insurance. I got into an accident Dec 28, 2006. Still no decision on the accident, I am paying out of pocket for all medical services and the car is completley totaled with nothing yet done about it.
