I recommend Yoga. There are some great tapes on the market and the Yoga Journal is an excellent resource on line: http://www.yogajournal.com

To gain outer strength, you must develop inner strength. In yoga, the seated poses are emotionally grounding, there are strengthening and balance poses and poses that can calm the nerves, increase courage and give you the inner strength you seek. Best of all it is inexpensive and you see results very quickly with dilligent practice. If you are a beginner, go very slowly and get a tape that has beginner modifications to the poses to you can ease into yoga properly. If you are in ill health, please consult your health practitioner before beginning any exercise program.

Peace!
