Now this may sound stupid, but I have been told that if you die with your eyes open that means you went to hell and if you die with them closed "sort of in a sleeping state" that you have gone to heaven. I don't personally believe this but I was just kind of curious!

I should've rephrased that question. What does it mean if someone dies with their eyes open or closed?

No questions that mock my answer. Like I said I am just curious about this.

I think thats just an Urban Myth. A woman who is very religious and lived for god could be killed while awake and die with her eyes open, does this mean she's gone to hell? No. Also even a person who have commited many sins and is an atheist could die in their sleep with their eyes closed, does this mean they go to Heaven? No..
I've never really heard about this myth but it defys logic.

Its just the way the muscles set up. the natural state for your eyes is open and after a while that will occur (after rigor mortis is gone) so morticians either sew or now glue the eyes shut. If you die in your sleep your eyes may be closed for a while but it is more common t have them open.

I am a nurse, and have had people die with their eyes open and closed...I have also heard that, about heaven and hell...I think that is why pastors or priests ....whatever religion they are, when they come in after death if the patient chooses, they always close their eyes...I have even known doctors to do it right after death....

Most people do die with their eyes open if they die when they are awake. The only ones who die with them closed are people who are asleep at the time of death.
And no, it has nothing whatsoever to do with what afterlife the person is going to.

Some people die in their sleep but, if not then they die with their eyes open. Both of my grandfathers were Christian men and I know for a fact they are in heaven. One of my grandpa's said he saw heaven and it was beautiful but, didn't say anything after that because, I believe we aren't supposed to know what heaven looks like yet. I don't know where you heard that but, it's not true at all.

You have a strange morbid curiousity.
Yes many people die with their eyes open. A corpse with the eyes open isn't a pretty sight, trust me.
I believe the heaven & hell thing you described in your question is a crock, so you can keep on disbelieving that one.

I don't know that there's a particular meaning. Some people die with their eyes closed b/c they are sleeping. Nothing "mystic" about that.

I believe that if you die with your eyes open, it's because you struggled to stay alive, but if you died with your eyes closed, it's because you resigned yourself to death at the last second. That's how it seems to me.

basically, it only depends on HOW you die.
closed means either you got lucky and they were closed during an heart attack or abrupt situation or that you died in your sleep.
open means you were surprised by death, for the most part.

open/closed that has nothing to do with heaven or hell, it's just a silly rumor, please don't believe that crap. No where in the does it say that, or even close to it.
