Cataracts cannot be treated without surgery. They also do not commonly cause pain. Have you seen an opthamoligist? If not, then that is who you should be seeing ASAP. The link below is from the Mayo Clinic and talks about cataracts. I would suggest you read the information provided. It sounds to me as if you have something besides cataracts happening.

Cataracts don't usually cause pain. What kind of suffering? If she truly has cataracts, which is unusual in a 20 year old, and it is affecting her vision to the point that she cannot see well enough to function, she will need surgery.

People live with cataracts for a long time before they resort to surgery, with the exception of babies born with congenital cataracts. Babies need surgery immediately or they will be blind.

I may not understand your question.

Usually there is no pain with a cataract.
It sounds more like Glaucoma or an infection behind the eye.

I suggest eye, ear , nose specialist.

(and yes cataract requires an operation, whereby they replace the lens of the eye)

No. Cataract can only be removed/"treated" by surgery.( Although there are some eyedrops available in the market which claim to retard its progression).

Cataract is usually painless unless it's is a long standing condition that it causes secondary eye problems (i.e. glaucoma and uveitis). If this is the case, see your ophthalmologist ASAP.

Cataracts are not painful. Maybe its a tumor or something else there.

Have the operation as soon as you can. My cousin had one and his complete attitude changed for the better after his operation. My poor dogie is blind in one eye because of one. Please get it taken care of soon.
