I spend a long time straightening my frizzy, curly hair. The straightner is damaging and time consuming. Is there an easier way? Please help, especially if you have curly hair and have been through this same thing.

if you go to an asian beauty salon they have a permanent hair straightner called "magic". i think it was invented in japan or something. but it will make ur hair permanently straight and silky w/out having to keep straightening everyday.

I feel your pain! I have very frizzy, curly hair and also spend quite a bit of time trying to get it perfectly straight and shiny. Here are some things that I've found to help.

First of all, I try to take a shower at night before I go to bed.

Then, I let my hair air dry for a good half hour before even starting to blow dry. (I often put it up in a bun or ponytail so that it doesn't start drying and frizzing too much).

Then, I work a dollop of straightening gel through my hair. (I have used Sebastian Get It Straight, the orange Matrix line of products, and Enjoy straightening gel and have found them to all work well).

Next, I blow dry my hair using a big round brush. I've heard that paddle type brushes will also work.

Then I go to bed. For some reason, my hair tends to be a little flatter and not nearly as frizzy the next day. This way, at the most I just end up having to do some light touch ups with the straightening iron in the morning. I usually work a dime-sized amount of a shine serum over my hair too, and even top it off with some anti-humidity or shine spray (even if I have no time for the straightening iron, this seems to help it lay flat)

The other key is to try to not wash your hair every day. If you straighten it, try to go two or three days without washing it. You can just touch it up with the straightening iron in the meantime. (Hair stylists and dermatologists will often recommend not washing your hair every day because the water dries it out more.)

So my methods are definitely more "product-intensive" but it certainly beats the heck out of the damage and time spent with the hot straightening iron!!!

honestly there's not much else for u to do. The only thing i could think if is to permanently straighten it. with chemicals. but that's damaging to. i have really curly frizzy hair. and the permanet straighteing system doesn't work for me at all. so i straighten mine. I dont do it everyday though. cause that'd be really damaging
sorry

What kind of straightener are you using?
I use a Maxi-glide...it combines steam & heat. Not as damaging, but I use a spray beforehand to protect my hair from heat damage.
The only other alternative is to use a relaxer. Then you are dealing with some strong chemicals.
Best bet is to go into a salon & ask a stylist.

my friend's mom got a japanese straightening treatment, which straightens it for a couple of months. it worked well on her, she had really tight 'shirley temple' curls, and her hair turned out pin-straight.
this is usually a pretty expensive treatment, so you could call up a local beauty school and see if they have students learning it that would want to practice on you. this is slightly risky, as you never know if you're going to get the kid that slept through the lesson, but you will also get it for very cheap.
