Actually, it will prevent them from fading due to the sun. Any sunblock will do. I would use SPF 25 at the least.

Sunblock is an essential for any inked person. Preferably the strongest you can find. Babyfaces in a pink bottle with a blue cap works great. If you dont want a big white spot put it on just over the tattoo with a qtip. AND KEEP APPLYING IT, once in the morning when you're out all day is not enough, every 2/3 hours.
The whole point of putting sunblock on your tattoo is to stop it being damaged (fading spreading etc etc) that can all occur from sun exposure. The other problem you my have is that your ink will not take kindly to the sunlight causing it to become raised and itchy. If you dont maintain it well then you will have to have it redone or covereed up quicker because it looks like crap due to neglect.

Sunburn is horribly bad for tattoos, and 100 times worse if they're fresh and still healing (3 months old or less). Even if you've had them for years, lots of exposure to the sun will make them fade a lot faster. Severe sunburn can even cause scarring and make your tattoos unsightly.
Lather them with a strong sunblock, even if you don't do the same to the rest of your body. The best thing to use is zinc cream, but if you're worried about looking silly, use a sports sunblock with a really high SPF rating. It lasts longer, works better, and won't come off as easily in the water or when you sweat.

no it doesn't and it is said to put sunblock over a tattoo so that it doesn't fade or become discolored (the sun will take the color and make the ink fade) i recommend that u use sunblock when ever in the sun and the tattoo is unprotected by clothing

Sunblock will not damage your tattoo, but the SUN will!
I would recommend using a relatively high SPF. The higher the SPF, the better. :)

No it doesn't. In fact, you SHOULD put sunblock on a tattoo to stop the sun from fading it. Have fun on your holiday!
